Accomplishments of the Order
- Congressional Charter - Provides recognition for MOWW
as a leading veterans organization.
- Patriotic Education Activities - Sponsors youth
leadership conferences and forums to spread the word about
individual responsibility, citizenship, patriotism, and the
free enterprise system.
- ROTC Programs - Supports the establishment and
growth of ROTC programs during the years prior to World War
II and continues to recognize outstanding Cadets, Junior
and Senior ROTC units.
- Boy and Girl Scout Programs - Offers recognition
or achievement at the highest levels in the Scouting program.
- Massing of the Colors - Instituted in the 1920's,
now celebrated in communities across the nation as a stirring
patriotic ceremony.
- Distinguished Service Award - Presents the award
each year to nationally recognized patriots, who are honored
for extraordinary contributions to our national defense.
- Officer Review Magazine - Publishing ten issues
annually, generating numerous awards over the year for articles
written by members of the order.
- Armed Forces Day - Originally established as "Army Day",
as a result of the efforts of the Order and converted to
"Armed Forces Day" in 1950.
- Purple Heart Medal - Re-authorized during the
tenure of Army Chief of Staff General Douglas MacArthur, who
also served as the elected Commander in Chief of the MOWW.
